Default Toyota Dealer Service Center Tips: Halogen Headlights

Your Toyota Dealer Service Center knows that you need to be able to see where you are going. From Hazelwood to St. Peters, no matter where you drive in Missouri it’s important that you have the proper lighting so that you can stay safe as you drive. Not only that, but functional headlights also help other drivers see you on the St Louis roads as well. One of the newest options in headlights is the halogen bulb. Here’s a primer from your Toyota dealer about just how these bulbs work.

A halogen bulb is similar to a standard bulb. It has a filament inside of a glass case, and it is the electricity running through this filament that produces the light. The difference with a halogen light, however, is in the construction of the bulb. With these headlights, the filament is thinner, which allows for a brighter light. Ordinarily a thinner filament would mean that the bulb will burn out more quickly, but that is not the case with these bulbs. On the contrary, your Toyota dealer has learned that halogen lights are actually far longer lasting than conventional bulbs.

The glass of a halogen bulb is filled with gas. This gas allows the bulb to burn at a higher temperature, and it also helps the filament to last longer. Your St Louis Toyota dealer knows that this gas allows the tungsten that burns off of the filament to be re-deposited back on the filament instead of settling on the glass. This keeps the bulb lasting longer and the glass clear for the lifetime of the bulb. The higher temperature also creates a different color of light, which is why the bulbs appear almost blue or purple in tone when compared with a regular bulb.

So, is it time to get halogen headlights for your new or used Toyota? Well, they are brighter, and they will give you more visibility. On the other hand, they can be too bright and actually compromise other cars’ ability to see at night. Some bulbs are so bright, they are illegal! Check your owner’s manual to see if halogen bulbs are right for your vehicle, and be sure to get the proper brightness. You’ll be able see more clearly at night on all of the Missouri roads, and with other drivers being able to see you better as well, your drive will be even safer.
